Scotch : Islay – More like Octobore; super heavily peated my butt. In 2014, I was told this was one of the peatiest Scotches in the world; I had been hunting it ever since. I was on vacation in Scotland so I took the time to go to Islay to visit the distillery specifically to buy a bottle. When I finally opened it at home, it was a huge disappointment. I really like the things Bruichladdich makes, but for the price I paid for this bottle (something like 130GBP), I wouldn’t buy it again.
I think they change the flavoring on every release, which likely means I didn’t buy the correct bottle, but this is what was available. The Port Charlotte is peatier and the Islay Barley is much more enjoyable to sip on. It’s just a mediocre Islay that lacks the elements of what I enjoy about them. Maybe if this was a Highland, I would have enjoyed it more.
Don’t meet your heroes.
